No More MacGruber: Will Forte Leaves SNL

Given the dismal response to the MacGruber film, Saturday Night Live fans might not care if that character died. But, really—who doesn’t love Will Forte?

The funnyman who was featured in sketches like political candidate Tim Calhoun and opposite band Jon Bovi has just announced that he will be leaving the late night program. The parting of ways was reportedly amicable.

Jane Lynch: Hosting SNL?


NBC hasn’t officially confirmed that will be hosting SNL, but Ryan Murphy managed to spill the beans at Tuesday’s Eat Pray Love premiere. Murphy is the co-creator and mouthpiece of Glee, which Lynch stars in as Sue Sylvester.

called to say, ‘Would you give us Jane [Lynch] for a week in October?’” Murphy told reporters. “We just don’t do that, but for Lorne Michaels, I said yes.” Sure, who wouldn’t?

Murphy sent a text to Jane Lynch right after the phone call, telling her she’ll be hosting the famous variety show. Lynch’s response? “What are you talking about?”

If the rumors pan out to be true, expect to see Jane on the October 9 broadcast of SNL.

2010 Primetime Emmy Nominations



The road to the officially kicked off early this morning. Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara (who received a nod) and Community‘s Joel McHale (who didn’t) were the ones who had the honor of reading this year’s list of nominees.

Although - with 17 nominations - once again topped off all dramas, 30 Rock did

not

lead the comedies. did. The freshman FOX series raked in a total of 19 noms, only a handful short of the overall leader. (HBO’s miniseries, The Pacific, received 24 mentions.) 30 Rock did receive 15 nominations, though, while Modern Family followed closely behind with 14.

The August 29 ceremony - which NBC will air live on both the East and West coasts - will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon. You can see a partial list of nominees after the jump.

Can Facebook Get Betty White an Oscars Gig?


When Betty White says, “Type, nerds!” - nerds type.

Approximately a week after the 88-year-old joked (?) in an NBC promo about getting a gig on the Academy Awards (watch the second clip), her Facebook fans got back to work.

Now there are pages devoted to having White host the Oscars and/or the 2010 Emmys. Oh - and there’s even one campaigning to get the actress on Glee.

A little tired of the Golden Girl overkill? Well, then maybe you can throw your support behind another comedienne. Nearly 79,000 people have already become Facebook fans of “Carol Burnett to Host SNL (PLEASE?)!

What is it about Mother’s Day that brings out the best in Saturday Night Live? (Remember Justin Timberlake’s “Motherlover” from just last year?)

Last night’s long-awaited broadcast with was arguably the best night the show had had in quite some time. (Of course, appearances from old SNL faves - Rachel Drath, Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph and Molly Shannon - were also responsible for a good number of the laughs.)

Betty White Talks Nudity on SNL


At 88 years-old, Betty White is finally hosting Saturday Night Live (thanks to much help from a Facebook fan page!). Of this week’s episode, White was asked about whether or not she draws the line at nudity.

GSN to Host Betty White Marathon

To celebrate Betty White’s , the Game Show Network will host a seven-hour marathon of the octogenarian’s greatest game show moments. White, a once-frequent guest on Match Game, will be the central programming theme for the cable network from 9 am to 4 pm on May 8.

White appeared on the show from 1974 to 1977 along fellow celebs like Eva Gabor, Richard Dawson and Brett Somers. Match Game was a slightly naughty Mad Libs-style game where contestants did their best to match celebrity answers - and really, it’s great fun. If you’ve never seen the show, Saturday is a great excuse to check it out. During the marathon, viewers will be treated to classic Betty White moments. She’ll show off some exotic dancing, have ice cubes thrown down her blouse and make jokes about her famous then-husband Allen Ludden.

In her brand-new promo video, Betty White pokes fun at the Internet and thwarts rumors that she’s a “cougar” - in a completely hilarious way, of course.
